This is a map of Tennessee I picked up during an autumn visit. As I worked on it I noticed that Tennessee’s rivers formed six blue diagonal poles running north-south in a rhythmic pattern across the state. It reminded me of Pollock’s Blue Poles, Number II. Making this connection caused me to add 5 or 6 more layers of drawing to the map. Each layer contains imagery from the map’s legend.
